Elephants are majestic, intelligent creatures that require large amounts of resources to survive, which can bring them into conflict with subsistence farmers living along the edge of the Okavango Delta.

The Life with Elephants Tour is an independent community tour group that was established with assistance from the Ecoexist Project in an effort to bring more benefits back to people who live with elephants on the edge of the Okavango Delta. You will begin the tour with the group by discussing with the elders the day to day challenges of living amongst elephants, including safety and procedures to protect village crops. After traditional singing and dancing, guests will then be taken on a walk to experience all aspects of village life, including visiting the local school, housing, transportation by donkey drawn cart, access to water, local arts and crafts, and a visit with the local blacksmith. This experience is a unique opportunity to fully immerse yourself in traditional life for a local community that exists in a delicate balance with wildlife, as well as increasing the value of elephants for the village and encouraging their conservation.

The transfer from Maun to Eretsha Village is iconic in itself, since after lifting it takes only moments before crossing the famous veterinary fence that signifies the start of the Okavango Delta. At low altitude, your transfer offers sweeping views of the seasonal floodplains at the extremities that merge into the permanent lagoons of the Panhandle and the formation of the Delta, giving you the opportunity to view a variety of wildlife dependent on these different habitats. Heading north, you will explore the eastern side of Chiefs Island, whereas your return route, after your visit to the Ecoexist Project, will take you over the western side of Chiefs Island for a different perspective.
